Gives me the willies
Lush Cosmetics is quitting Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok because “dark and dangerous alleyways” are no place to meet your customers. Patagonia has stopped paid advertising on all Facebook platforms since June 2020. Elon Musk had already deleted Tesla’s Facebook page back in 2018 because Facebook gives him the willies. Is this a movement gaining momentum?
In the meantime, a recent study came out, claiming that the introduction of Facebook at a college coincides with a decline in students’ mental health and academic performance. It’s the first study providing a quasi-experimental estimate of the negative mental health repercussions of social media use.
Gives me the willies.
