Sbee
Here’s a great framework you can experiment with the next time you’re giving feedback. It’s called SBII. Haha, is it sbee, like in free-sbee? S B I I? Whatever. It sounds funny, but it’s great.
S is for Situation.
Clarify the specific context in which the behavior you want to address occurred.
B is for Behavior.
Describe the behavior that you want to address.
The first I is for Impact.
Describe the impact that behavior had, or may have on you, the team, the project, etc.
The second I is for Intent.
Ask about the intention behind the behavior. For you, it’s an opportunity to learn more about the other person and, in turn, it may help them talk through the potential gap between their initial intentions and their action.
