You have other priorities

People don’t care about brands; they only care about famous brands.

And so famous brands can let the brand do the talking. It doesn’t matter if people don’t get it—remind me, please, what's the difference between Pepsi and Coke? Nike and Adidas? Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo anyone?—because they’re already famous.

But until then, a brand offers you little to no advantage. Dress for the occasion if you want but stop trying so hard; you have other priorities.
